The major proportion of living organisms is comprised of carbon. When they die, microbes play a very vital role in the break down of complex compounds to simpler ones releases carbon, nitrogen etc.
Carbon cycle as the name indicates regulates the carbon content in atmosphere. If these microbes are less in number, which eventually slows down or stops the decomposing of dead bodies which will automatically hinders the carbon regulation in atmosphere and disturbs the cycle.
