Monoculture of a particular type of tree is not a substitute for natural forests because:

i. Natural forests consists of several types of trees belonging to different species but monoculture is cultivation of a particular type of tree. Thus, there is no diversity of trees in monoculture unlike natural forests.

ii. Natural forests support several flora and fauna and are ecologically balanced, in which different species of plant and animal coexists. In monoculture, diversity of plant is absent and few animals are found which are supported by particular type of trees grown.

***MONOCULTURE IS A TYPE OF CULTIVATION WHERE ONLY ONE TYPE OF TREE OR PLANTS ARE GROWN IN A PARTICULAR AREA.

*** MONOCULTURE REQUIRES THE DESTRUCTION OF FORESTS LEADING TO DEFORESTATION.

*** THUS DEFORESTATION LEAD TO THE LOSS OF USEFUL HERBS,SHRUBS, AND TREES WHICH ARE USEFUL FOR VARIOUS PURPOSES.

*** MONOCULTURE ALSO REQUIRES PROPER REGULATION WHICH INCLUDES THE USE OF PESTICIDES, FERTILIZERS ETC.

*** THE USE OF SYNTHETIC FERTILIZERS CAN LEAD DEGRADATION OF SOIL QUALITY AND DEPLETION OF SOIL ANIMALS PRESENT IN THAT NICHE.

*** MOREOVER, MONOCULTURE REQUIRES A LOT OF IRRIGATION WHICH WOULD LEAD TO THE DEPLETION OF WATER RESOURCES.

***DEFORESTATION CAN ALSO LEAD TO THE EXTINCTION OF WILD ANIMALS LEADING TO THE LOSS OF IMPORTANT GENES.
