Answer:

16

Step-by-step explanation:

Given How much antifreeze which is 30% alcohol must be  removed from to ounce container and replaced with  water to make 48 ounces of solution which is 20%  alcohol?

Let A be the amount of alcohol solution to be removed and replaced with water.

So solution 1 – amount to be removed + amount of solution to be added = solution 2

  So 30% (48) – 30% (A) + 0% (A) = 20%(48)

 0.3 x 48 – 0.3 A = 0.2 x 48

14.4 – 0.3 A = 9.6

14.4 – 9.6 = 0.3 A

0.3 A = 4.8

A = 4.8 / 0.3

A = 16

So 16 ounces must be removed and 16 ounces of water need to be added to dilute 30% solution  to make 48 ounces of solution which is 20%.
