g° = 1% of g = g/100

g°=g×[1 - d/ R]

g/100= g[1 - d/ R]

d/R = 1- 1/100

d = 99/100×6400

d = 6336Km

The answer is 6336 km

GIVEN

Acceleration due to Gravity = 1% of its value at the Earth's surface

TO FIND

Distance below the earth.

SOLUTION

We can simply solve the above problem as follows;

Let the new acceleration due to gravity = g'

ATQ,

g' = 1% of g (Where, g = acceleration due to gravity near the surface of earth)

g' = g/100

We can also write it as,

g' = g (1 - d/R)

Where,

d = distance below the Earth

R = Radius of Earth = 6400 km

Putting the value of g' as g/100

d/R = 1-1/100

d/R = 99/100

d = (99/100)× 6400

d = 99 × 6400 = 6336 km

Hence, The answer is 6336 km
