How much current will an electric bulb draw from a 220 V source, if the resistance of the bulb filament is 1200 Ω? (b) How much current will an electric heater coil draw from a 220 V source, if the resistance of the heater coil is 100 Ω? if the circuit is to be fitted with the fuse what is the minimum capacity of the fuse to be used in each case?

(a) Current = 0.183 Ampere

(b) Current = 2.20 Ampere

-----------------------------------------------

(a) Given:

For electric bulb:

Voltage = 220 V

Resistance = 1200 Ω

Solution:

According to Ohm's law, the current is ratio of voltage and resistance, hence, can be written as:

I= V/R

Plug the given values in the above formula:

I = 220 / 1200 = 0.183 Ampere

(b) Given:

For electric heater coil:

Voltage = 220 V

Resistance = 100 Ω

Solution:

According to Ohm's law, the current is ratio of voltage and resistance hence can be written as:

I= V/R

Plug the given values in the formula:

I = 220 / 100= 2.20 Ampere
