I appreciate that my parents are some of the kindest, most generous and uplifting people I’ve ever known.
I have had to move home several times over the years, and they always accepted me with no questions or stipulations. When I was unemployed due to a car accident, I would find a twenty or fifty dollar bill on my dresser once in a while. Just some running around money, they said. They have been there for me many times when my finances fell apart. I have paid them back, but a few times, when the amount was quite large, they told me not to pay them back, just to get on my feet and be happy.
They were like that with both of my brothers too, when we still had them. They are the first to contribute to a noble cause. An acquaintance’s house burned down and they sent a monetary gift. Their granddaughter’s house burned down and they sent their motor home for her to live in. The volunteer fire department had to help us out one day, and dad, out of gratitude, made a very generous donation, as they refused to charge him. I could give a bunch of examples of their generosity.
They like nothing more than to see people succeed in life. They want to see people happy. Both of my parents have a great sense of humor and make people laugh all the time.
They have always been honest and forthcoming types of people. Sometimes to the point where they get used. But that doesn’t stop them, they believe in giving people second chances.
My parents have seen their share of grief over the years. They lost one son to death and another to schizophrenia. They have handled both with grace and love. They are absolutely the two strongest, straightest people in the world.
I can’t imagine having been parented by anyone else. I am truly blessed to still have them at the ages of 84 and 85. I treasure every bit of time that I have with them. Folks like mine don’t come along every day. I couldn’t be prouder of them.
