The eyes don’t use much energy at all. The muscles that move the eyeballs are very small, and the muscles that adjust the iris are almost microscopic.

The real work done in “seeing” is done in the brain, and the “visual cortex” is quite large. Further, it’s in use virtually all the time and so consumes a substantial percentage of the brain’s total use of resources.
