this quantity is called the latent heat of vaporization.

For water it is 4.18 Joules for 1 gm.

For 1 gm of liquid water at 100 deg C to become dry steam of 1 gm gas or vapor at 100 deg C, the heat energy absorbed is 4.18 Joules.

Same energy is released when the vapor condenses at the same temperature.
