How much heat energy required to change 4 kg of ice at 0 degree celcius into water at 30 degree Celsius (specific layent heat of fusion of water=334000J/kg, specific heat capacity of water=4200J/Kg^-1K^-1)

Explanation:

The energy required is divided into two components

  • Fusion (Change of state of water from solid to liquid) which takes 334,000*4kg= 1,336,000 J
  • Increase in temperature from 0 to 30, specific heat being 4200 for 1kg for 1°C, it takes 4200J/kg/°C*4kg*30°C = 504,000

Adding both above we get 1,840,000 J
