The main energy source of our planet is the sun.The solar energy mainly reaches our planet in the form of heat energy.

But the total amount of heat energy doesn't reaches our planet, because a major portion of heat energy is reflected to the sun due to various atmospheric procedures, such as reflection; refraction etc.

By scientific calculations we came to know that 430 quintillion joules/hour of energy comes in the earth's atmosphere from the sun; after the reflection and refraction of the excessive amount of solar energy.

The amount of heat that is exchanged between earth and sun is about 168 Watts per meter square.

  • The sun as we know it is about 150 million kilometers away from the surface of earth and is the source of energy that feeds the solar system. The sun is basically a source of heat whose radiation travels in all directions in the solar system.
  • The celestial bodies and the planets that are near or far from the sun take in energy from the radiations that are emitted from the Sun,  Earth being one of them. Earth has a layer of atmosphere surrounding the planet because of its gravitational pull.
  • The atmosphere that is surrounding the earth allows the radiation of the sun to cross the atmosphere partially or and this energy that enters the system is responsible for the life processes that are taking place on earth.
  • After the reflection and refraction that takes place with the radiation in the atmosphere the amount of energy or heat that is exchanged with earth is about 168 Watts per meter square.
