The rock cycle is a model of how rocks form, break down, change, and form new rocks. While it is called a cycle, the processes involved do not really move in a circular motion to end up at the beginning. Through the various processes, rocks can change back and forth between the different types of igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic in any order.
