Distance to walk along two adjacent sides = 24+18 = 42cm
Distance to walk diagonally = diagonal of rectangle
Hypotenuse^2 = base^2 + altitude^2
Let diagonal distance be ‘d’
d^2 = 24^2 + 18^2
d^2 = 576+324
d^2 = 900
So d = 30 cm
Difference = 42-30
=12cm
Therefore, it is 12 cm shorter to walk diagonally than along its two sides
