We have,
Atomic mass of Na = 22.9 u
Molar Mass of Na₂SO₄ = 2 × 22.9 + 32 + 4 × 16 = 141.8 g mol⁻¹
Molecular Weight = 500 g
No. of moles in Na₂SO₄ = 500/141.8 = 3.5 mol
Mass of Na in 1 mol of Na₂SO₄ = 3 × 22.9 = 68.7 g
Mass of Na in 3.5 mol of Na₂SO₄ = 3.5 × 68.7 = 240.45 g
Molar mass of 3.5 mol of Na₂SO₄ = 3.5 × 141.8g = 496.3 g
Hence,
Percent of Na in Na₂SO₄ = 240.45/496.3 ×100 = 48.45 %
Thus, mass of Na in Na₂SO₄ = 48.45/100 × 500 = 242.25g
Hence there is 242.25 g Na in Na₂SO₄.
