Answer:
The answer here has to be derived, Maharaja Kanshika, is the second most important figure in the spread of Indian culture and values to China and the east, after Emperor Pyadaasi Ashoka Maurya. In fact in Buddhist texts, he is mentioned over and over as facilitating the spread of Buddhism, and Indian knowledge to China by desire. Kanshika was of foreign origin but became an Indian by choice. This is a unique aspect to him, and will help explain why his art has to be interpreted differently than Mauryan art which preceded him. Both Mauryan art and that of Kanshika has Greek influence merged into the Indian Mathura style of it’s design. In the time of Kanshika, a great Indian writer by the name of Aswaghosha, the Author of the Buddha Charita a work which can only be compared with Valmiki’s Ramayan. He also described Kanshika and his beliefs. There were others as well in Kanshika’s circle including, Vasumitra and Charaka.
