Work done by steam is equal to heat gained by ice.

Heat gained by ice (q) = mCp∆t = 5 × 4187 × (273-(-288)) = 314025 J

(For water or ice Cp = 4187 J/kgK)

Work done by steam (w) = P × V = 101325 × mass/density. = 101325 × mass/1000.

(Consider steam as an ideal gas)

Therefore 314025 = 101.325 × mass

Therefore mass of steam = 3099.185 kg
