Swathi wants to distribute sweets to some of her friends, she wants to give either 14, 15 or 10 sweets to her friends and keep 8 for herself. What is the least number of sweets she must have in order to distribute?

Well I'm not sure there is enough information to answer this. You have indicated she wants to give sweets to ‘some of her friends’, but you have not indicated how many of her friends. I can see you have indicated more than one (if there was only one friend you would/should not have used the plural 'some…friends’). Generally I would assume that if there were only two you would have simply said ‘her friends', so the ‘some of’ suggests there were at least 3, but that cannot be assumed. I will therefore assume you meant only 2. If that is the case, she would need a minimum of 28 sweets…10 for each of the two friends and 8 to keep for herself.

For any number of friends, let us use ‘X’ to represent that number. In order to determine the least amount needed we will use the quantity 10 as the numbe
