the whole train will take around 21.6 minutes to cross the bridge

OmBiswal: time is equal to distance by speed
DazednConfused: right on the method, wrong on the answer. If the train needs to cover 1000 M (distance of bridge plus length of train) that is 1 km. 1 km is 1/50 of the speed being traveled 50km h, 1/50 of an hour is 72 seconds, or 1 minute and 12 seconds.

Hey!!!!

Given for a train,
length = 200m
speed = 50 km/h

In what time it covers a distance of 200 m ,

We'll use unitary method here,
if 5000 m in 60 minutes
then 200 m in x minutes

Thus x = 200 * 60 / 5000
=> x = 12/5 minutes

If 200 m in 12/5 minutes the train covers, then how much time will it take to completely pass a 800m long bridge,

200 = 12/5
1000 = x

We have taken 1000 considering the length of the train itself also.

Thus x = 12/5 * 1000 / 200
=> x = 12 minutes

Thus the train will take 12 minutes to pass the bridge
