Atenolol is a beta blocker which mainly affects the heart and it's heart rate and is a best example for lowering the blood pressure in heart and blood vessels. The Beta blockers are used for the purposes of, highly involved blood pressure, Abnormal and irregular heart rhythmic stations in heart (arrhythmia), Some types of tremors, Heart failure (inability to pump more and more blood or the slowdown of blood pumping), Chest pain or angina pectoris, heart attacks (permanent damage to the cardiac muscle) and Little to High migraines. They are not usually given and prescribed as a proper medication, it is only given when there is a huge need for the body otherwise some diuretics and work perfectly in order to control blood pressure.
Coming back to Atenolol, it is a type of beta blocker which lowers the blood pressure (from high to low) by restricting certain type-wise receptors in the cardiac muscle or heart, making the contractions of heart reduced and hence lowering the blood pressure and pumping of the heart muscle. This beta blocker works by blocking of the receptor named "beta-adrenergic" receptors which is responsible for sending out electrical impulses or messages to the cardiac muscles to pump more and more which makes the heart to contract faster and faster, they just stop this process of releasing of beta-adrenergic receptors by attaching themselves (like all antigens, antibodies and pathogenic substrates do to perform a action) and suppressing the molecules involved in the activation of cardiac muscles making then to push the blood and contraction of blood slower and henceforth the blood pressure automatically decreases. This will be a really big advantage for those with high blood pressure or some patients suffering from hypertension, as, this beta blocker does the same work and decreases the total blood pressure of the body quite effectively and eliminates the stressors acting on the heart and the whole cardiovascular system, preventing further from a heart failure, cardiac arrest, heart attack, stroke, etc.
