Using the relation: v² - u² = 2 a s, we have
0²(m/s)² - 20² (m/s)² = 2× a × 40 m
==> -400 ( m²/s² )= 80 a (m),
==> a = -5 m/s², ie the car decelerate @ 5 m/s²
Using the relation: v = u +a t, where v= 0 m/s; u = 20m/s, a = -5 m/s², we get on substituting various values,
0 = 20 - 5×t; ==> t = 4 second.
So it would take 4 second to stop the car.
