We get most of our energy from non - renewable energy sources, which include fossil fuels like petroleum, natural gas and coal.
They are called fossil fuels because they were formed, over a period of millions of years, by the action of heat and pressure on the remains of dead plants and animals.
About 300 millions years ago the earth has dense forest in low lying with land area. Due to the natural process like flooding, this forest got buried under the soil.
