How much water a pump of 2kW can raise in one minute to a height of 10 m. take g = 10 m/s2?

Given :

Power of the water pump (P) = 2 KW = 2000 W

Height (h) = 10 m

To Find :

Amount of water that a pump with 2000W power can raise in 1 min

Solution :

Work Done by the water pump = mgh

where m = mass of water; g = acceleration due to gravity; h = Height

Work Done by the water pump = m × 10 × 10

                                                    = 100m                                                

We know,

       Power   =    \frac{Work Done}{Time}

⇒      2000   =   \frac{100m}{60}          [∵ 1 min = 60 sec]

∴            m    =  1200 Kg

∴  1200 Kg of water is pumped in one minute to a height of 10 m.
