Given: 16ml acetone has a concentration of 48%.

To find: We have to find the amount of water in it.

Solution:

In acetone solution acetone is the solute and water is the solvent.

Let we have to add xml of water.

Now the concentration of acetone in the solution is 16/16+x

It is equal to 48%.

Thus we can write,

 \frac{16}{16 + x}  =  \frac{48}{100}  \\  \frac{1}{16 + x}  =  \frac{3}{100}  \\ 48 + 3x = 100 \\ 3x = 56 \\ x = 17.33

Thus, the value of x is 17.33.

So, 17.33 ml of water should be added to 16ml acetone to make it's concentration 48%.

16+x

16

=

100

48

16+x

1

=

100

3

48+3x=100

3x=56

x=17.33

Thus, the value of x is 17.33.
