Mass of the ball, m = 50 g = 0.05 kg
Initial velocity, u = 0
Final momentum = 500 g cm/s = 500 (10-3 kg)(10-2m/s) = 5 × 10-3 kg m/s
Final velocity, v = (Final momentum)/mass = (5 × 10-3)/(0.05) = 0.1 m/s
So, the change in KE of the ball is,
½ × m × v2 – ½ × m × u2
= ½ × 0.05 × 0.12 - ½ × 0.05 × 0
= 0.0025 J
Initial velocity, u = 0
Final momentum = 500 g cm/s = 500 (10-3 kg)(10-2m/s) = 5 × 10-3 kg m/s
Final velocity, v = (Final momentum)/mass = (5 × 10-3)/(0.05) = 0.1 m/s
So, the change in KE of the ball is,
½ × m × v2 – ½ × m × u2
= ½ × 0.05 × 0.12 - ½ × 0.05 × 0
= 0.0025 J
