How much weight can a brick and cement wall hold?
This is all depending upon how well your footings are set and how thick the wall is. One thing that should always be considered is the type and quality of the bricks and mortar.
There are many things that must be considered when trying to work out how much weight a brick and mortar wall will hold.
1.The effects of gravity (in most cases this in negligible)
2.How high and how long is the wall
3.How old the cement being used is
4.The styles of brick being used
5.The competency of the person putting the wall up.
6.The weather in the location of the wall
-Lots of rain can cause foundations to shift or float on soil
-Very cold climates tend to cause the small amounts of moisture trapped in the mortar to freeze. If there is a lot of weight on the wall the wall can collapse due to the increased stress since water expands when it freezes.
-Hot dry climates offer the best conditions for the wall since there is very little moisture in the air.
-Hot damp climates are some of the worst since they do not let the water in the mortar to dry out so the mortar has a tendency to stay soft.
