museums are an integral part of preserving historical records and acts as the gateway for present and future generation to the glorious Indian history. However, recent burning of museum has shed light on current issues faced by museums :

* limited operational and financial autonomy: museums are required to work under the supervision of government authorities which gives less importance to such activities, thereby thwarting future exploration potential.

*involvement of multiple agencies in museum operation: ministries of culture, art, archaeology, literature has led to slowdown of efficient functioning of museum operation, making museum work outdated in nature.

*limited exposure of museum achievements among different stakeholders like civil society, masses, youths, private sector has hampered its collaboration with foreign agencies and institutions.

measures for resolution of above issues:

* community outreach programmes like FM radio and community radios for awareness generation regarding importance of significant preserved artefacts and as a source of cultural significance.

*safety of museum buidings like fire and energy audit , dedicated disaster prevention force, implementation of hazard resistant building codes should be done.

*independent regulator for fund generation independent of government funding source should be adopted so as to encourage collaboration with domestic and foreign cultural entities.

*cultural scientists should be given training with regard to response mechanism for prevention in case of disaster like situtation.

thus, institutions preservation should be given the priority to project India's as a soft power and to take pride in its rich heritage and historical past.

Recent koh-i-noor controversy as well as fire in national museum of natural history are just a few isolated incidents of apathy toward the rich heritage and culture of our country and shows decaying conditions of precious artifacts in debilitating museum of our country - which are in dire need of attention .

Problem plaguing our country is both structural as well as procedural and thus need to be dealt in a comprehensive way :

Structural issues :

> museum under scattered ministries : museum im India are under number of ministries making administration and coordination an uphill task.

> lack of vision : poor attention along with ad hoc arrangement are making museum at the mercy of care takers.

>lack of research institutes and skill : an urgent need to promote research and education on museum and artifacts .

> no dedicated investigation and protection force : no dedicated force with expertise needed to fight rising incidence of stealing and protection .

procedural issues:

> political interference in appointments.

> lack of autonomy in administration .

> poor Budget for museums.

the problem requires a holistic solutions some of them are :

> integration of all museum under an autonomous institute.

> an independent regulator for safety standard and best practices.

> an efficient record keeping and data maintenance of international standard .

> coordination with other countries like Italy which are rich in culture heritage as well as institutes.

> PPP model for accountable and efficient museums.

In a country like india with rich tradition and culture dating back centuries , museum plays great role for knowledge and research . Their is an immediate need to address the issues concerning museum to protect our revered history .
