Nambi is an old fashioned story teller created by R.K. Narayan in his famous story "Under the Banyan Tree".
Nambi is an old man though illiterate but well gifted with a fertile power of imagination in a remote village of Somal in South India. He used to create a story in his mind with great comfort and then narrated it to villagers in an open space in moonlight. He narrated the story for three hours every night and took a month to complete the story. He used to go into minute detailing of every characters in the story. This tradition continued for years . Nambi was an integral part of the villagers,as through his stories he took them on the wings of imagination in order to make them forget their pain and live a happy life created by him in his stories.
