Hello friend,
Earlier Nepal was under the rule of King Birendra, who accepted this transition from absolute monarchy to constitutional monarchy. He was later killed In a mysterious massacre of the royal family in 2001.
King Gyanendra, the new king did not accept the Democratic rule. He took advantage of the weakness and unpopularity of the democratically elected govt.
In Feb 2005, king dismissed the PM and dissolved the Parliament.
The movement in April2006 was aimed at regaining popular control over the govt. from the king. So, many parties and peoples and also MAOIST Insurgents joined hands.
On 24 April 2006, the king was forced to concede all demands. Girija Prasad Koirala became the new PM.
hope it helps.
