Nitrogen is a fundamental component of amino acid which are the molecular building blocks of protein, this means that the amount of nitrogen excreted the body is greater than the nitrogen ingested.

Hope this helps you

IT IS KNOWN AS THE NITROGEN CYCLE

Nitrogen in the air is taken into the ground by lightning, Bacteria in the soil  (rhizobium) and fertilizers.

The bacteria in the soil convert this atmospheric nitrogen into nitrates, which is then absorbed by the plants during photosynthesis. These plants are then eaten by animals who get the nitrates as nutrition. The animal wastes and dead and decaying animals and plants are mixed with the soil which get the nitrogen in the soil back. Then the bacteria in the soil convert these nitrates back into nitrogen which is then sent back to the atmosphere.

This cycle keeps repeating over and over again, thus making sure that the nitrogen in the air remains balanced.

hope it helps
