If you've ever driven during rush-hour traffic or waded through a crowded store, you know all too well that rude people are everywhere.

How can I not be offensive or rude?

♣︎My answer to this is that it depends on the situation. Being “offensive” and “rude” are both subjective things since it depends on the person and/or group of people you’re talking to since one individual may find something you say as offensive/rude, while another individual may not.

♣︎I’m not a politically correct (aka. “PC”) person myself as I’m known for my bluntness and straightforwardness, which is definitely viewed as offensive or rude to certain people I’ve met, but I just don’t care. Not to be insensitive, but as I believe everyone is allowed to have their own opinions or points of view on whatever topics they are passionate about, those people can choose to view me as offensive and rude, and I can continue to be blunt/straightforward.

♣︎I know this doesn’t really answer your question, but I’d say that a general rule on how to not be offensive is to just be aware of your surroundings and the people you’re with and just don’t say anything racist or bigoted, regardless if it’s a joke or not. In terms of not being rude, maybe just try to be friendly (smile and such - it’s not really a strength of mine as I often come off as cold upon first impressions a lot of the time) when first meeting someone.
