Bond strength is proportional to the bond-order. Bond order = (no. of electron in bonding orbital - no. of electrons in anti-bonding orbital)/2

Since, in O2, the highest occupied molecular orbital is an anti-bonding molecular orbital, removal of an electron from it increases the bond-order and hence the bond strength. But in N2, the highest occupied molecular orbital is a bonding orbital therefore hence removal of an electron from it decreases the bond order and hence decreases the bond strength.
