Bhagat Singh was almost 22 when he and his friend Batukeshwar Dutt threw two grenades in to the assembly chamber on April 8 of 1929.
On 8th April of 1929, Bhagat Singh and Batukeshwar Dutt entered the Assembly chamber with two grenades in their hands. Suddenly they threw them between the British officials by shouting the slogan “Inquilab Zindabad”. They bomb set off with extreme sound in the chamber. However the bombs doesn’t kill anyone as they were designed to not to kill anybody, instead the bombs filled the chamber with smoke. But the bombs had injured few important British officials in the chamber.
Singh and Batukeshwar Dutt were arrested by the British officials within minutes after the confusion.
According to the records, the two patriotic rebels had not made any single try for their escape from the chamber even though there were plenty of chances to make an escape. But they stood still in the middle of the chamber, shouting the slogan “Inquilab Zindabad” and throwing the leaflets of their propaganda all over the chamber.
The leaflets they have thrown in the chamber read “It is easy to kill individuals but you cannot kill the ideas. Great empires crumbled, while the ideas survived.”
