The concept of having a Opposition party in the Parliament came not from the Constitution but include in the Rules of Conduct of Houses.

Though India does not have a well developed structure of strong opposition which require atleast 45 seats in the Lok Sabha, but have an opposition for the following means:-

  • Helps in decision making process- Having a strong opposition enhances the chances of taking an accurate decision in the Parliamnet which is beneficial for all the citizens of the country.
  • Initiates Healthy debates- Debates on any topic is necessary so as to quote the positive and negatives related with that matter. Conducting a healthy debated in the Parliament is one of the major work of an opposition party so as to highlight the other side of every issue.
  • Helps in keeping check on the ruling party- Having an opposition in the law making and implementing process, it became easy for the people to believe in the democratically elected government and opposition helps restrict the administrative government to overuse their powers.
