Petroleum products are materials derived from crude oil as it is processed in oil refineries. Unlike petrochemicals, which are a collection of well-defined usually pure chemical compounds, petroleum products are complex mixtures. The majority of petroleum is converted to petroleum products, which includes several classes of fuels.

By Fractional distillation of crude oil. Because they have different boiling points, the substances in crude oil can be separated using fractionaldistillation. The crude oil is evaporated and its vapours allowed to condense at different temperatures in the fractionating column.
