It helps you understand how sounds are made

After you learn your mother tongues it becomes harder to pick up new sounds just from listening, since your brain at this stage has already acquired the phoneme set of your language and does not need to learn any other ones for communication to occur in any meaningful way.

Learning how sounds are produced and being conscious about the phonetic properties of a foreign language will help you pick up the accent better and avoid mistake which could eventually lead to miscomprehension between you and the listener.

By helping you to have a more true to the original pronunciation, you can fit in better

Besides the benefit of being better understood and a boost in confidence with the target language, one of the main benefits is being able to fit in with native speaker in a more intricate and personal level. Though this may or may not be the case for everyone.

Either way learning and perfecting ones accent is always benefitial and can affect you positively in multiple ways.
