Plasmolysis rarely occurs in a natural setting but can be induced in a laboratory by placing cells in a strong saline or sugar solution. In contrast Hemolysis refers to the process of the loss of cytoplasm (not just the water) from the rupture of a specific cell type: the red blood cell.
