- prophase is short and is without sub - stages.
- There is no pairing of homologous chromosome (synapsis)using synaptonemal complex and hence, no chance of crossing over and chiasmata formation.
- Prophase chromosomes appear double from the very beginning. KO
Prophase 1 in meiosis:-
- Prophase is prolonged with 5 different sub- stages.
- Homologous chromosome pair using synaptonemal complex during zygotene sub-stage of prophase 1 and often undergo crossing over during pachytene stage hence, forming chiasmata.
- The chromosome appear as single thread initially.
