The transport of pyruvate into themitochondria is via the transportprotein pyruvate translocase.Pyruvate translocase transportspyruvate in a symport fashion with a proton, and hence is active, consuming energy. Upon entry to the mitochondria, the pyruvate is decarboxylated, producing acetyl-CoA.
