Power can be shared among govt at different levels:
A govt for the entire country and govts at the provincial or regional level.
A govt for the entire country is called federal govt.
In India we call it the Central or the Union govt.
The govt at the provincial or regional level are called by different names in different countries. In India we call it as State gov't.
The division of power between higher and lower levels of govt is called vertical division.
