How railway was responsible for the deforestation in India

as the setting up of railway tracks need clear space .... so to do so railways had cut the trees and clear many parts of forest for the set up tracks and this leads to deforestation. ....

For setting up of railways large forest areas need to be cleared ,and also for transport of raw materials for construction were taken from forest and led to deforestation
