In most communities rain is the source of fresh water. Water is life as it is involved in the making of all basic needs and is a basic need itself. When it rains at the right time and for the right duration, rain water facilitate farming. Farming provides food for subsistence use and for trade. A community that does not experience high levels of rain tends to be smaller than one experiencing a lot of rain. This is due to a lesser availability of food as compared to one experiencing frequent rainfall. A lot of rain, on the other hand, results to the deprivation of food and shelter through flooding. Diseases are also prevalent in flooded environments. This poses a threat to the community as disease and lack of shelter expose them to sickness and attacks from wild animals. The unavailability of food also reduces the level of trade in the said community thereby increasing the chances of poverty.
