On the basis of status of development resources are classified as:
1.Potential resources
2.Developed resources
3.Stock
4.Reserves
1.Potential resources :
They are found in a region but not been utilized or developed.
Example :Rajasthan and Gujarat have enormous potential for the development of wind and solar energy but they are yet to be developed for various reasons.
2.Developed resources : Resources which are surveyed and their quantity and quality have been determined for utilisation.
3.Stock :They are found in the environment but are not accessed due to lack of technology.
Example :Water is a compound of two inflammable gases that are hydrogen and oxygen, which can be used as a rich source of energy. But we do not have the required technology to use them separately.
4.Reserves :They are subset of the stock. They can be put into use with the existing technology but their use has not been started.
Example:River water is used as a source of hydroelectricity but to a limited extent. Thus the water in the dams are reserves which can be used in the future.
