How rhizobium helps in nitrogen fixation when it in roots and nitrogen is in atmosphere?

No,soil is having some gaps due to which air can enter into the soil,which helps in breathing of the roots as u can see in marshy grounds the roots pops up the soil for breathing,as for the rhizobiums,the azotobacter bacterias present in the root nodules fixes the nitrogen from the air as NH3 which is used by the plants
