Lobg,long ago-I man about 4 billion years go earth was a very hot rocky plant.Earth was one of the earliest planets in the solar system which was the third of the four rocky planets.While jupiter and other gas giants are mainly made out of gas,like our sun which exists in a hot gas or plasma state.But the gas planets are cold.Earth was formed by rocks.Thus rocks help us to know the early beginnings of the earth and about its formation.For example we know the formation of himalayas.When the indian plate collided with that of asia it uplifted the land to form the himalayas which is still growing.
