Rusting is a redox reaction

  • Simple, it reduces the strength of materials. Also, it may corrode away precious material where strength is not important.
  • Rusting may have found some use. But since the speed of rusting is so slow that it is almost (I don't know any practical good use of rusting) useless.
  • Oxidation (rusting) of iron metal is the reaction of iron and oxygen.
  • Rusting is an oxidation reaction.
  • Common name of the chemical called iron oxide. The oxygen, water to create hydrated oxide.
