How salivaryamylase convert starch into maltose ??

Salivary glands secrete saliva which contains a digestive enzyme called Ptyalin or Salivary amylase that breaks down starch. Saliva also contains Mucus which helps in lubrication of food .
Starch on action of salivary amylase breaks down into Maltose.
