saturated hydrocarbons do substitution reacrion whereas unsaturated hydrocarbons do addition reaction.

in substituion reaction one hydrogen atom of alkanes are replaced by some other substance mainly chlorine.

in addition reaction unsaturated hydrocarbons combines with hydrogen to form saturated hydrocarbon.
