Scientific development is majorly influenced by social needs and perception. As we are aware that need is very important for a solution. Their is a requirement of question before answer to come. Every scientific development is targeted towards addressing a particular social need. If a invention doesn't resolve some need of society, or if society does not perceives some invention as useful, it will discard that invention. We can very well imagine that if a invention is made which does not solves problem of society it will be a waste.
Let us take the example of media of communication. Earlier we had postman who used to deliver our letters, now we mostly communicate through electronic mail. There was a need in society for fast communication which was addressed by email. Earlier our mobility was limited because of telephone or fax machine. Now days everyone has their telephone (mobile) in their pocket. Mobile phones have addressed social need of communication from any where. Nowadays we have camera, voice recorder, GPS system, compass, calculator and what not in our mobile. Every single application in our mobile is focused upon specific need and perception of society.

Let us talk about travelling. Earlier we you used to travel by bullock karts. Their was a requirement of fast mode of travel. Presently we can travel by bike, cars, airplanes. All these inventions are directly influenced by social needs and perception.

Why go far, the computer on which you are reading this paragraph is also addressing your need for education. The internet is based upon need of fast communication. We have communities to share knowledge related to education, sports, medicine, astrology and what not. The whole world is condensed in your laptop and PC to address social needs. Hence we can conclude by saying that each and every development of science is influenced by social need and perception.
