Chromosomal sex is determined at the time of fertilization; a chromosome from the sperm cell, either X or Y, fuses with the X chromosome in the egg cell

The sex of a baby is determined by strands of genetic material present inside the nucleus of a cell. These thread like structure are called chromosomes.

Human male produces two types of sperms that is of X and Y chromosomes whereas human females produces ova with X Chromosome only.

During fertilization if a sperm with X Chromosome fuses the ova, the zygote will develop into a female and if a sperm with Y chromosome fuses the ova, the zygote will develop into male.
