How shehnai came into being​

A pipe was chosen with a natural hollow stem that was longer and broader than the pungi and made seven holes on the body of the pipe . when it was played , closing and opening some of these holes soft and melodious sounds were produced The instrument was so different from the pungi and had to be named as "Shehnai"

Pungi was played in Emperor Aurangzebs court But he banned it for its shrill sound . A barber of a family of professional musician improved it . He chose a pipe made with seven holes in it . he played it which gave a musical sound . the pungi became shehnai after its being played in shahs chambers
