Modern time shipping is different from the olden days in the following manner:

  • Many sea routes where unknown, people were not aware of most weather phenomenon's which always posed the risk to sea voyage in the olden days. Today with clear sea routes and sophisticated instruments to check weather changes, navigation has become relatively easier.
  • Due to enormous size of the ships and enhanced technology, today it's possible to carry a greater number of people and larger quantity of goods in much less time. Due to the absence of such advantages in the past, it was difficult to carry large number of people and goods. Also, since most operations were manual, no arrangement to proper food storage and the other technological backdrop leading to further increase in time journey.
  • Today it is possible to maintain proper cleanliness and hygiene on the ships, thus there are fewer outbreaks of diseases during voyage and also proper prevention methods are available. During older days, it was very difficult to maintain the proper cleanliness due to congested spaces and lack of resources. Infact, if disease outbreak prevention and curing also become difficult task, resulting in a greater number of deaths.
